That all said i've longed to find the original files that they used to print the player posters. maybe that extra padding was a bit much, as was the cabin i bought to us just before entering said dungeon in case i had to battle a couple ogres en route. i had 10s of hours into that game before i realize you could speed up the combat (i was 10) but i was a hyper prepper for the the first two dungeons before i figured out that hey i had started with 99 cure vials and finished with 78. And I will NEVER pass an opportunity to find one of the 99 widgets required for the Weapon of Ultimate Destiny. ![]() Every RPG since then has been waaaay too easy because I'm always overlevelled and over equipped.Īnd I want NOTHING to do with any of those dynamic scaling games. Between that and Phantasy Star I/II I learned to endlessly grind because otherwise I could never make it to a dungeon and back. That game taught me all my bad gaming habits. Hex-Based strategy games where you level, evolve, can sacrifice or win your opponent's forces are a very interesting genre that is far overlooked.įano: tom baker's scarf: the first NES FF? Dark Wizard for Sega CD is also worth mentioning as it was a fantastic game. ![]() I personally like Brigadine is a better version. Ogre Battle was okay, but the map stretched you too thin often times and RNG could fark you. Modern day RPGs are largely trivialized with skill based approach overshadowing traditional elements. Get to appreciate the artwork, immersion, progression and actual strategy. Why the fark is every single RPG going the same direction into an ARPG for spazzy kids? Turn-Based. Don't add any cheesy extra mechanics like Disagea. Do not make it as linear with impossible story bosses because you either sped up or over leveled and the scaling is farked. Have a more interesting loot progression system. Add more job classes and skills and mix/matching. They could easily take and expand on this. Apparently it had some link to Schala or Magus, but it's been so long I've sort of forgotten.įF Tactics is the best FF game hands-down. Otherwise, yeah, the one part I remember being a link between the two games was when you came across the frozen flame in Chronopolis. I believe it was where Lynx and Kidd were introduced, but obviously they didn't have any sort of release here. There were some tie-together games called Radical Dreamers which were only released in Japan on the Super Famicom Online service. It seems to me that a third game is needed, both to fully tie everything together and let you actually fix things. sure Chrono Cross was an interesting concept for a game, but it didn't feel anything like a sequelĪfter you get to the Dead Sea you see where they link and that the actions of Chrono Trigger caused the events of Chrono Cross, but it's not a direct sequel. I think that's one of those games where the rights are so spread out that it would be almost impossible to get everybody back on the same page to do a remake or proper sequel.
